Quarantine Cooking Class
On December 3, 2020 by SheilaFor my birthday this year, I got to do a virtual cooking class with Chef Daniel Boulud!! We have always wanted to go to his restaurant Daniel in NYC, but never got reservations the few times we were up there. Doing this cooking class made me want to go to his restaurant even more!
Ben ordered the class through GoldBelly–you can order food from famous restaurants and do some cooking classes with celebrity chefs. The ingredients arrived, the day before the class, in an insulated box that we threw straight into the fridge. All the ingredients were portioned out for us, so we just had to combine everything together with the chef and not worry about taking too long chopping vegetables.
It was soooo cool to see Chef Boulud and pretty much cook dinner with him. There were a ton of other people on the video call, but it was easy to keep his videos pinned and follow along. We toasted with some wine and got cooking.
My two sous-chefs and I made endive salad, poulet grand mère Francine, and madeleines. Deanna surprisingly loved the endive salad and was scarfing it down off-camera. The poulet dish was fantastic. I am still amazed. The ingredients were things we can easily get at the grocery store, but somehow the flavors of everything combined were something you get at a restaurant. The madeleines were already baked, we just had heat them up in the oven. Since Ben does not like sweets, Deanna and I enjoyed all of the madeleines.
Once the pandemic subsides, we will definitely be making our way to restaurant Daniel. I want to taste Chef’s cooking for real!
