Milan/Milano
On August 25, 2020 by SheilaWe had arrived in Milan. I chose to fly into Milan Linate airport instead of Milan Malpensa (MXP) to avoid an additional connecting flight.
At Linate airport, we headed for customs. We waited in the line for the international arrivals. A customs worked motioned for us to follow her. Sure! She brought us past the line to some sliding doors that led us to the family line!! Whoa!! I love Italy! Io amo l’Italia! Quick thunk, thunk, thunk for the passports and off we headed for Milano Centrale train station.
We grabbed a taxi from one of the many readily available at the taxi stand right outside the airport. The taxi ride from the airport to the train station gave us a glimpse of Milan since we were not staying there for long today. We were scheduled to spend the last day and a half of our trip in Milan before our flight back to the U.S.
At Milano Centrale, we made our way to a ticket machine to buy our train tickets. First of all, when you pull up to this magnificent edifice, your jaw drops. It is just amazing how this building was built and the attention to detail. Okay, back to buying tickets. I warned Ben many times to keep his wallet in his front pocket and to be aware of the backpacks. Pickpockets are in full force in Europe and the train stations. So, as we are going through the menus to buy the tickets, someone came up and helped translate somethings for us. In the end, he tried to get us to buy a train ticket for him, since he “helped” us get our tickets. Ben let him know that he would not be getting a ticket from us. It was enough of a commotion for the station police officers to take notice and scare him off. From that point on, we were on high alert for strangers hanging a little too close to us.
I do not have enough words to describe this building. I am still in awe thinking back on it and looking through these pictures. It reminds me of the buildings you see in the World War II movies.
Since we bought the train tickets last minute, the only seats that were available were the regular seats. No problem! We were just happy to be in Italy and headed to Venice!!
